Successful Teens with Opportunity, Knowledge, Experience, and Determination, or Stoked, is a non-profit organization that empowers teenagers through sports in New York City and Los Angeles. Participants are mostly from low-income households and neighborhoods, and some of them are raised by single parents.
Stoked’s programs include 1-year skate, surf, and snowboard mentoring programs as well as the female-focused Stoked Sistas, Red Bull Action Sports Photography classes, and Stoked Club which teaches presentation skills, college prep, and career advice.
While celebrities like Tony Hawk have gotten involved with Stoked, Stoked is still a non-profit organization funded entirely through donations, grants, and fundraising. They rely on monetary donations and volunteers to keep their programs running. If you live in the New York City or Los Angeles area, you can volunteer with Stoked, and if you don’t live in the area but feel compelled to help, you can donate to Stoked on their website at http://www.stoked.org/wordpress/donate-now/.
