SurfAid International came to our attention the other day when we were searching the internet, and we think they have a pretty incredible story.
Surfer/doctor Dave Jenkins went to the Mentawai Islands in search of the “perfect waves,” but his life was changed by the people of the islands. When he saw that they were suffering and dying from preventable illnesses like malaria, he called in his friend and fellow doctor Steve Hathaway. Together, they have set up health clinics, provided mosquito netting, educated communities about disease prevention, and worked to improve water quality.
